ELECTION OF THE KAEA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR 2000

Dr. Young Chin Kim chaired the nominating committee for the next year's executive committee, and Professors Kim Youn-Suk, Kim Kwan-Suk, and Pyun Chong-Soo served as the members of the committee. The nominees were

President-Elect--Eun Kwan Choi (Iowa State University)
Vice President--Kyu Hong Kim (Bowling Green State University)
Secretary General*--Sun Woong Kim (University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin)
Treasurer--Yongsung Chang (University of Pennsylvania)

*This year the KAEA has amended to create the three-year term Executive Secretary. But given the limited time, the KAEA was not successful in finding a suitable candidate. The executive committee, therefore, decided to elect the one-year term General Secretary for the year 2000.

Ballots were mailed on October 15, 1999 to all 67 then fee-paying members.

The chair of the nominating committee, Dr. Kim, reports that, as of November 22, 35 ballots were returned. The votes are unanimous in the affirmative for each and every nominee named in the ballot.

The president of the KAEA, Prof. Semoon Chang, now officially announces the election of Eun Kwan Choi, Kyu Hong Kim, Sun Woong Kim and Yongsung Chang to their nominated positions. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL!!!

MEMBERSHIP

Of almost 300 currently listed in the KAEA Membership Directory, only 69 members have paid their 1999 dues as of Nov. 10, 1999. (This does not include 22 junior members for whom due is waived.)

There are many benefits in being a due-paying member. For example, due paying members are being generously subsidized in their participation in the DC conference this year, and Seoul conferences in the past. Many members had a complete free-ride in the past, or some members paid dues only when they participated in the conferences. KAEA will be more vigilent in enforcing the rule that only continuous due-paying members will be allowed to participate and be subsidized. This includes all activities sponsored by the KAEA such as KAEA-SEA sessions, KAEA-ASSA sessions, the biennial KAEA-KEA conference in Seoul.

2000 MEMBERSHIIP DUE

It would be good to pay your membership due for the year 2000, now. The KAEA annual due is for the period between Jan. 1 and Dec 31 of the year. The membership due will remain at $20.00 a year.

This year, the notice for membership application for the year 2000 was sent out earlier than in the past. As of Dec 16, 1999, 15 members have paid their dues for the next year. The status of due payment will be closely monitored in all KAEA functions, including upcoming KAEA conference in January in Boston.
