KIF-KAEA Conference

The KIF-KAEA Joint Conference has been postponed due to the lack of submitted papers fitting into the common theme originally proposed by the KIF. Therefore, the seminar will be organized with banking-related topics this time. Papers on banking, either empirical, theoretical, or policy-oriented, are welcome. Preference will be given to papers on Korean banking or foreign banking from which implications for Korean banking can be drawn.

Submission: Submit your completed paper with an abstract of 200-400 words by e-mail with file attachment to Vice President, Professor Kang Hoon Park, khpark@semo.edu. Only completed papers will be accepted. The paper should be an original paper which has not been presented or published somewhere else. Submitted papers will be reviewed by the referees selected by the KIF, and 2-3 papers will be selected for the seminar. To be selected in the program, the KAEA annual membership fee has to be paid for year 2003 and 2004.

Submission deadline: September 30, 2004

Notification of the selection of the papers will be made by October 25, 2004

Conference date and location: mid-December (a specific date to be determined later) at the KIF Conference Room.

Travel support: Each paper selected will receive a travel expense support (about 1,500,000 won) and honorarium of another 1,500,000 won.

KEA-KAEA Seoul International Economics Convention

The deadline for submission to the KEA-KAEA International Economics Convention has been extended to June 20, 2004, and selected papers will be announced by June 30. If you wish to participate, please send your paper to Vice President, Professor Kang Hoon Park, khpark@semo.edu.

KDI-KAEA Conference

The KDI has accepted four papers for presentation at the KDI-KAEA conference, and would like to invite two more papers. They are willing to consider papers that are marginally relevant to the issues they announced earlier. Even if your paper does not fit the announced themes perfectly, please send your paper to Vice President Kang Hoon Park (khpark@semo.edu) by June 20, 2004. If your paper is selected, you are required to present the paper at the KEA-KAEA international economics convention as well as at the KDI-KAEA conference.

Letter from Suchan Chae

Dear KAEA Members,

I want to thank you all for your moral support. I have been an economist for more than two decades and have been into politics for only two months. Obviously, the job of a congressman is quite different from that of a professor. But I will remain an economist and, hopefully, a productive one.
Best Wishes to All of You,
Suchan Chae

Note: Professor Suchan Chae at Rice U, who has been our member for a long time and also has served as a VP in 2002, has been elected to the Korean Congress. See the web site: Suchan Chae
