2002 KAEA meeting: Report

The KAEA annual meeting was successfully held on January 4-6, 2002 in Atlanta at the ASSA conventions. Sixteen papers were presented in four academic sessions. Of the four sessions, one (titled "Structural Reform Issues in Japan and Korea") was joint with American Economic Association or another (titled “Education and Economic Development”) sponsored by AEA.

At the annual business meeting, various matters were also discussed including the loss of a session due to the small size of due-paying membership and session attendance. All members were encouraged to attend our sessions to retain the remaining three sessions allotted to KAEA.

Maekyung Symposium was held at the annual business meeting, where Professor Pyung-Joo Kim, Sogang Univesity, gave an invited lecture on financial reforms in Korea. KAEA dinner was held at Hanwoori Korean restaurant.

Incoming President Yung Y. Yang appreciated outgoing executive officers (Eun Kwan Choi, President; Yesook Merrill, Vice President; Sunwoong Kim, Secretary General; Young Back Choi, Treasurer) with small gifts. Warm appreciations to all participants, the members of the program committee, paper presenters, chairs, and discussants for the successful meetings. Job Openings

A few new job openings are listed at JOB OPENINGS site. New announcements are posted from time to time. Please check it out often.

Membership Due

An increasing number of organizations are seeking to get more sessions while new organizations attempt (often unsuccessfully) to enter ASSA and take away with some. As the total number of sessions is fixed and the KAEA is being one of the smallest if not the smallest organizations, we face the constant threat of losing the sessions. We lost one session this year. To keep the remaining three sessions, it is imperative for members to attend KAEA-sponsored sessions and to pay their dues. The number of due-paying members is ever more important to keep the allotted sessions at the ASSA annual convention. Please send your membership due for 2002 to KAEA treasurer:

Prof. Soyoung Kim
Department of Economics
University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign
1407 W. Gregory Dr.
Urbana, IL 61801

Lifetime Membership:$ 200,     Annual Membership: $ 20 (regular),      $ 5 (student)

Members who paid dues are posted on the MEMBERSHIP site.
