KAEA Conference in D.C.
North Korea and the World Economy
The KAEA executive committee is organizing a conference on "North Korea and the World Economy," on August 27 (Mon.) - 28 (Tue.) in Washington, D.C. A more detailed announcement will follow as soon as more information becomes available.

Annual Meeting in New Orleans
The KAEA annual meeting was held on January 5-7, 2001 in New Orleans at the ASSA conventions. Fifteen papers were presented in four academic sessions. Besides the regular sessions, a panel discussion on Korean economic reform was held. As usual, after the business meeting, KAEA dinner was held in a Korean restaurant. Thank you to all participants: the members of the program committee, paper presenters, chairs, panel discussion participants, and discussants for the successful meetings. 2000 SEA Meeting
Professor Hak Youn Kim (Western Kentucky University) organized two KAEA sessions at the Annual (2000) Southern Economic Association meeting in Washington, DC, November 10-12, 2000. Thank you very much, Prof. Kim. If anyone wants to organize sessions in other regional meetings (such as Western Economic Association), please let us know.

Membership Dues
Probably most of you are already aware of the fact that the revenue from membership dues accounts for less than 10% of the total expenditure of our association. Rest of the money comes from solicited donation by the executive committee, particularly by the President. Nonetheless, paying membership is extremely important not only to the individual members but also to the association. Obviously membership privilege can be extended only to the members who paid the current year's due. Also, the honorable standing in the ASSA (Allied Social Science Associations) crucially depends on the number of due-paying memberships, and our association is probably one of the smallest association if not the smallest.

In this sprit, we created a category of lifetime membership last year. With one-time payment of $200, you can forget about all your future dues. Also, this year we have decided to charge $5 for junior members. This is not to raise the revenue, but to increase the number of due-paying members and to welcome them to the association earlier in their career. Annual membership due for the regular member is $20. Please forward your check (payable to KAEA) to the Treasurer:
