KAEA Annual Meeting
Please make plans for attending 2001 ASSA/KAEA meetings in New Orleans in advance, because hotel rooms are in short supply. The general information is available at the American Economic Association websites (http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AEA/mtin.htm). Four KAEA sessions are scheduled for January 5 (Friday) - 7 (Sunday). There will be a KAEA business meeting and dinner on January 6 (Saturday). In particular, this year we will have a special reception for Korean and Korean-American job candidates fresh out of graduate schools. Please spread the word.

You may view the Program of the KAEA sessions in a pdf format.

In order to increase KAEA's presence in ASSA, members are urged 1) to register as a KAEA member; and 2) to show up at the KAEA sessions. The cooperation of the members are extremely important to maintain the number of sessions (currently 4 sessions) allocated to KAEA, because we are one of the smallest associations in ASSA.

Seoul Convention
The 9th joint conference between KEA (Korea Economic Association) and KAEA was a big success. The full program is available in a pdf format or at the KEA web site. The two-day event was held at Seoul National University, on August 18-19, 2000. KAEA members presented 29 papers, about one half of all papers presented at the conference. This year, the active participation of the KAEA junior members was particularly noticeable. Besides the paper presenters, all of the executive committee members of KAEA, two session chairs, and 3 discussants had attended the conference. The KAEA thanks Professors Caeone Kim, Jang Hee Yoo, Wanjin Kim and Dosung Chung and other officers of the KEA and the Seoul conference committee for their hard work and hospitality.

KAEA - KIF Joint Conference
A half-day joint symposium between Korea Institute of Finance (KIF) and KAEA was held at KIF on August 17, 2000. You may view the PROGRAM in the pdf format. After opening remarks by Dr. Hae Wang Chung, President of KIF and Professor Bong Joon Yoon of KAEA, Mr. Kun Kyong Lee, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Korea gave a keynote speech on capital liberalization and e-commerce in Korea. At the symposium, five research papers, three from KAEA, were presented.  About 70 academics and researchers from various research institutes, banks and universities in Seoul attended. KAEA thanks Dr. Hae Wang Chung, and Dr. Han-Yung Jung, Research Fellow of KIF, for all the effort that they have put into the preparation and organization of the symposium.
